Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Horsing Around

We've jetted off to Tennessee to visit with David's parents, since the last time I spoke to you. Kristi and Dustin joined us on our flight, while Shea flew in from Fort Bragg, NC and Kayla from Nacogdoches. It was the first and only time for the Knox, party of six, to be together during our USA holiday. All the kids have already gone back to their respective areas, leaving David and me to fly back to Austin tomorrow night on our own. It's been a little wild and crazy here entertaining two year old free spirited great niece twins, Morgan and Madison. Throw in six year old great niece, Corinne, and the plate is full. No dull moments here. Until next time...

Par for the Course...We Wish

We have a neighborhood golf course in our U.S. hideaway that David and I haven't tried out in the three years that we've owned our Kyle, Texas home. Well, I've since figured out why. We suck at golf. Nonetheless, we marched into Academy Sports yesterday morning and picked me up a set of clubs (happy belated birthday, David!) and were off to a 3:00 pm, 93 degree tee off time. With a three year absence of playing participating in golf, I found the heat to be brutal and my lack of any physical activity since returning to the states unforgiving. It was so bad that after the first hole I warned David that there would be no score keeping happening on the outing. Lucky for me, David didn't take any pictures. Unlucky for him, I did. Make sure you enlarge the pic to the right to get the drift of our "par for the course" day. Haha, paybacks are hell for dragging me out into that heat, not to mention the rattlesnake infested course. Happy golfing, peeps.

Crawfish Fun

Texas meets Louisiana
for a day of nonstop family, food, and fun.

On Sunday we gathered for the Almost Annual Trahan Crawfish Boil. A few hundred pounds of crawfish served up with one huge side of b.s. equals one heck of an outing. Thanks to all that made the drive to join us to share new stories, but maybe more importantly to bring up a few memories of days gone by (even if we do wish some of those were forgotten!). Until next time, continue to let those good times roll!

Almost Home

I should never have announced yesterday exactly how many hours and minutes that were left until David's arrival in Austin. It seems I put a jinx on him and he missed his connection in D.C. Apparently they issued him a boarding pass with the wrong gate number and he patiently waited for the call to board, which never came. So, now he sits at The Hilton awaiting his rescheduled flight for tomorrow morning. With no further snags, knock on wood, he should arrive in Austin at ????. I'm not making that mistake again. Cross your fingers with me, please.

Patiently Waiting

Woohoo! The time has come. The taxi is scheduled to pick up David in Doha at 10:00pm (my time) to take him to the airport. FINALLY, he's going to join me in Texas (in about 32hrs, 14min, but who's counting?) to share in all the family and friends fun that I've been having these last eight weeks. To be prepared for his arrival, I decided a couple of days ago that I really ought to balance out all that Tex Mex and country cooking that I've been consuming with a workout regimen. Bingo! A few sit ups, squats, and military press and I'm good to go. Phew, I'm glad I got all that nonsense out of the way. Safe travels, sweetie. I'll see you on the flipside!

Too Much Fun?

So, what the heck have I been up to, you ask? One full week with not even offering a pitiful morsel on the blog...lashes for me. Well, besides practicing on my photoshop addiction, I've been road trekking, again. I took a trip to Nacogdoches to see Kayla for no other reason than just wanting to see her smiling face. From there it was on to the old home front for reunions with my old gal pals from high school and my old, but not so long ago co-workers. I'll just say this about both gatherings. I had entirely too much fun within a very short period of time and my body let me know it. I was exhausted from laughter and straining my brain trying to remember moments in time from my high school years. "We're the best from here to heaven, Senior Class of '77." Does that give you any indication of how much memory loss that could have occurred since then? Before it was over, however, we ended up remembering more than we wanted to. Honestly, if there is such a thing as too much fun, it was definitely accomplished over the weekend. Ciao!

Forever Young

There's nothing like the kids playing out in the yard on a nice summer day to make a mom smile. I think there is something about those Knox/Trahan genes that makes us not want to grow up. As my dad often says, "The acorns don't fall far from the tree."

Uhhhh, almost?

On a Wing and a Prayer

I received a special wake up picture message at 7:00am this morning from Shea in Fort Bragg, North Carolina...

My interpretation of his first picture:

"Good morning mom, I'm jumping from an airplane this morning.
Please pray for me."

This one:

"I knew you'd come through for me!
Your prayers are the bomb, mom :D"

Just doin' what I do best for you kids, Shea...
Worrying and Praying!

To Nac and Back

...and so her new journey begins

We did our best to make Kayla's teeny tiny temporary residence as cozy as possible as she awaits her permanent hall director housing assignment at Stephen F. Austin within the next month. We decided to not push our luck and start hanging pictures and what not on the walls for such a short period of time. We did ending up using two small tacks, hoping they'll somehow forgive us.

Moving Day

While the rest of my summer crew is off frolicking and camping at Pedernales Falls, Kayla and I have packed up the U-Haul and are ready to pull out to head to her new digs. Mutt and Jeff (yes, that would be us) were unbelievably (and comically) able to get Kayla's mattress and box springs from her second story apartment to the truck. Thanks for nothing, No Show Ryan...there will be no dancing from us at your wedding. The moving gods were looking over us as we put plan B, the banister slide maneuver, into play. Phew, it was tricky, but we pulled it off. After getting it all packed up, we drew straws to see who's good fortune it would be to drive the U-Haul for the move. Lady Luck deemed Kayla the winner. Well, it didn't exactly go down like that. It was more like, "Not no, but HELL NO, will I be driving a moving truck anywhere, much less Naconowhere!". Enough said. Drive on, K.K., Nacogdoches is that way.

"I think I'm gonna be sad,
I think it's today, yeah.
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away."
