Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Showdown in Vancouver Town

I don't even follow hockey, but in a photoshopping frenzy messing with the tweeple I follow, I somehow ended up in uniform. So it is that the men's Olympic USA and Canada teams are meeting on the ice tonight (11:00pm Qatar time) to fight for the gold. I'm from Texas, people, not hardly ice hockey country. The limit of me ever witnessing a hockey game was years ago in Beaumont, Texas. David had free tickets to a semi pro team that we had at the time, maybe called the Wildcatters? Can't remember and don't feel like Googling it. Anyway, I found the fans to be the most vile people I had ever seen. All they wanted was blood. They literally begged for the fighting on the ice and cheered to the heavens when it occured. I wasn't in tune with them then, and I'm not sure if I am now, but I'll give it a whirl and represent the red, white, and blue from my sand lot over here.
Representing TEAM USA from Qatar will be moi

Representing Team Canada will be Canada's @meredithwrogers (also residing in the desert)

Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!

You Say Salon, We Say Saloon

Doha "saloons" in pics

There was a girl who's

midnight fantasy
was to look like

Barbie.
So she decided that if she could only find the

secret of beauty,
then maybe she could get

fit and fab
and even find her long lost

curves.
After all, she knew that she was just a

diamond beauty
in the rough.

...to be continued,
insha'alah

Creamed Tomato Burgers

In my quest to make the best of my fresh off the vine first born tomato, a BLT came to mind, but here I am baconless in a Muslim country. What's a BLT minus the B? (No Googling needed, Shea!) Somehow, the sound of an LT just didn't excite me. Plan B: Hamburgers. Thank goodness they're not really made with HAM. As I was getting all my trimmings ready, I realized I had no buns or anything remotely usable so I made a quick run to Riviera's always at the ready grocery store. Bingo, I spotted an eight pack of buns right off the bat, but then saw the individually wrapped buns. How cool is that? I didn't need eight, so why not buy just two? I checked out with my QR2 purchase and whistled all the way home. Now to put my masterpiece together. I carefully sliced my prized possession and then moved on to slice the bun, only to find cream filling inside. Ok, so I had been warned. It said Cream Bun on the plastic wrap, but I thought to myself, this is Doha, there's not really cream inside. I mean, they just looked like hamburger buns. With no one looking, a quick scrape of the knife and voila, creamless buns. Long story short, the hamburgers were delish. I don't know if to attribute it to our garden ripe tomato or the cream buns. Hmm, maybe we'll try honey buns next.

Dishing on Sherry

I'm sorry I didn't have time to blog today. I spent all afternoon washing dishes at Sherry's (my boss and owner of Patrizi Photography*). She's a great hostess, but a fearsome slave driver. So much for my mad photoshop skills.

*I can't believe I gave her a plug after all that work.

Who are Sybil & Kristi?

I'm just tweaking the blog today and taking advantage of the "page" feature that blogger is offering these days. "Who are Sybil and Kristi?"...my latest creation. I can come up with such amazing, unique titles sometimes. Anyway, bare with me (or should that be bear?), while I try to clean up my sidebar. I'll be adding a few more tabs up top to consolidate what you see on the left. So in the meantime, say goodbye, or try out the new tab up top. Ciao!

Princess on the Prowl

Princess and I were out on the prowl today. Mission at hand...post spaying suture removal. We drove across town for the simple procedure only to find out on arrival that miss priss had removed her own stitches. Wonderful. A total wasted trip. It wasn't even like I could stop and get groceries or anything with a cat in hand. I did get her a little bangle with her name and phone number while we were at the vet, so I could feel somewhat accomplished. It ended up being a field trip for Princess. She had a lot of fun navigating once she got over her terror of the moving vehicle, got out of her pillow case, and took over the driving. I looked really hard for y'all a really good Doha pic while we were out, but all the quirkiness was laying low. Either that or I'm so used to it, I didn't even notice. Most likely the latter. I'll be more astute next time. Tootles!

Before & After

A view of the new St Regis Hotel under construction on my way to the Boot Scoot...

and on my way home...

Not quite, but my head was still spinning from all the dance floor fun (Thanks, Dave!). The Boot Scoot event ended up with a REAL country band. If they would have just added a mechanical bull, we could have pretended we were smack dab in the middle of Pasadena's famed Gilley's reliving our Urban Cowboy days (well, minus the carpeted dance floor, seriously people?!). I'm sorry to say that I never caught the band's name to give them their due worthy shout out. Reminiscing with old friends and adding a few more to the page just completed the package. From Joe's New Zealand version of YEEHAW to the Patrizis winning a TV, to Utah's wannabe Texan Kat, to fun tablemates, Melissa, Sharon and Heather, to the REAL cowboy and cowgirl of the night, Scott and Sarah that closed the place down, it was great to have a little bit of Texas in this corner of the world. Happy trails to you all, until we meet again.

Boot Scootin' Boogie

Woohoo, date night! David and I are headed to the 12th Annual "Boot Scoot" sponsored by Doha's Texas A&M club. It's advertised to be an evening of music, dancing, door prizes, and a TEXAS sized buffet. Yeehaw! We won't have Brooks & Dunn, George Straight or The Bellamy Brothers (note to Mike, please arrange for the future) to play live, but there will be a D.J. on board to hook us up with all our favorites. I'm looking forward to dusting off my cowboy boots and hitting the floor. Oh shoot, never mind, I left those in Austin, never thinking the Middle East would beckon them. Improvisation is my specialty, so no worries. The caveat on the 350QR ticket is "CASH BAR". Geez, $97 a ticket and adult refreshments aren't included? Ok, ok, it's a fundraiser for a worthy cause AND we get to let our hair down and feel a little bit like we're back at the ranch. Meanwhile...gotta go practice my two step.

"Yeah, get down, turn around go to town boot scootin' boogie"
