French Kisses From Kristi

A lot of you know that Kristi, my ex partner in crime in Doha, is nesting in France for the next four months or so. To her mother's pleasant surprise, she has started a journal of her own to chronicle her study abroad adventures. With her newborn blog, French Kisses from Kristi, she promises to keep me up to speed. You know, so I can follow the money trail. I look forward to living her new French life vicariously through her writings. I already feel a bit more "cultured" after reading her first entry from France about how the French are so kissy and what other than...bathroom etiquette or maybe the lack of, rather. Live from Canada, It's Kristi!

Hey there, world! It's Kristi here, blogging from the great town of Victoria, British Columbia (Canada, eh?!?!). Well I left Texas at 5:30am today and arrived at The University of Victoria this evening after a long journey of planes, ferries, and buses to visit my best friend, Kat! So far tonight has been amazing, but I can't really explain it in words so I'll just let the pic do the talking. Bon soir!

After arriving back to Doha Friday evening, I went to sleep around eleven and did not wake up until three this afternoon..and only because my mom so rudely forced me out of bed. Since my sleeping schedule is so screwed up, I've just finished my homework..at 2:40 am and what better to do with my time than write a blog? (not to mention..my mother's practically been begging me to) This is the dinner setting at prom. Instead of going out to dinner, we enjoyed our three course meal in the privacy of one of my friend's living rooms. Our set up included silk covered chairs, flowers, name tags for our seats, and parents as the waiters. The best part about prom was getting to see my best friends, of course. I unfortunately had a slight burn line noticeable in some of my pictures as a direct result from Thailand. Oh, these vacations are killing me, Mom! Despite the tan lines, I really enjoyed myself. With my Qatari prom dress and Thai headband..I knew no one would have the same outfit as me. Thanks, Mom & Dad! After enjoying a fun filled few days with my friends, I headed to Austin to wrap everything up before heading back to the desert. I feel like I'm an official adult since I have now driven from Port Neches to Austin all by myself. And to my Mom's relief, I do in fact approve of Kayla's boyfriend. =). Well, now that it's three and I'm waking up at six, I better head to bed. Have a good weekend!

Most of my friends applied to college months ago and are still awaiting their admission (or rejection) letters from the schools they hope to get into. The majority of my friends will not find out which ones they are accepted into until APRIL. Being the procrastinator that I am, I (more so, my mother) managed to force myself to finally apply to Saint Edward's toward the end of January. After nine long and agonizing days of waiting, I was accepted! Did I mention that I live in Qatar and had to mail my transcript to the opposite side of the world? I believe this nine days is a family record. So now I am carrying on the sibling tradition of attending Saint Edward's.

today's blog is being posted by KRISTI!
My school recently celebrated the annual International Week representing every student's culture. In our halls we had flags from 60+ countries throughout the world. We had an international buffet, salsa dancers, bands, and speakers throughout the week.
Pictured on the left -- I am proudly representing my two countries of residency...The States & the one and only Qatar.
Pictured on the right -- My friend, Stephanie, is representing her citizenship in The States, her residency in Qatar, and her Lebanese culture. (note the scarf)











And I can't leave out my 1/4 Estonian, 1/4 Swedish, and 1/2 French Canadian best friend. Although she is a Canadian citizen, I'm somehow still friends with her, ehhh? This is my friend, Kat, proudly posing with her flag on the left.







To the right -- This is my Palestinian friend, Aseel, (yes, like a walrus) with a dual US/Canadian citizenship. Whatever happened to plain Texans?!? We cheered for her as the team had an awesome win against Qatar Academy. Basketball isn't exactly the sport for Qataris.



Unfortunately one of the last days of International Week was the day of Heath Ledger's death. My friends and I wore black in remembrance of him. That would be why we're not smiling in the picture...except for the girl on the far left, but she's special.In order from left to right: Alkesta Maili-- She has an American passport, but she's Albanian.

Claire -- The most typically American girl I will ever meet in my entire life, but she was born & raised all seventeen years of her life in Qatar.
