Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

CRS Can Really Stink

No time for chatting today.  I have to clean house, again, to ready for my cleaning guy.  Geez, now I have to unpack my suitcase from my summer jaunt to the U.S.  I guess I was going to have to eventually unpack it, anyway, since I do have to repack for our holiday excursion next week (still in the planning stages!).  Speaking of holidays, here's the  update on my camera battery charger woes.  I showed up on Monday as instructed at Salam Mall, and lo and behold they did have a charger in stock for my camera.  I purchased it and was out the door in five minutes.  Hmm, that was way too easy.  What gives?  I got it home and put my battery on to charge and it showed a full charge after only a few seconds.  It did say "quick charge" on the box, but seconds?  I popped it in my camera and it was deader than a doornail*.  I boxed up the charger  and headed back to the Nikon dealer to speak to him about my defective charger.  It was a no go. The charger was fine. Yes, David somehow (which he claims he has no understanding of how or why) blew up my battery when he tried one of his homemade contraptions to reenergize it.  He's one for two, but I'll keep him, anyway. Now I've spent QR 140 for a charger  and QR 150 for a battery (79.64 in USD to be exact) all because of my CRS** syndrome.  Do you think I can file that on my health care? Oh, Obaaaaama!

*Deader than a doornail...where the heck did that phrase come from?  Click here to find out!

No Road, No Problem

How are the driving conditions in Doha? I thought you'd never ask. Same same, I say. Yesterday I shot this pic of the road that runs along the side of our villas. No warning, no road, no problem. I love off roading, especially when it's legal. Note the Lexus resting inside the construction barriers. I wish I had taken the picture the day before when I actually witnessed them digging up the road unconcerned with the wrecked car. On a side note, looks like it was a draw between the Lexus and the road sign.

Is There a Doctor in the House?!

You know, I often wonder what David and I did in the evenings a couple of years back, before we landed in the desert. The crazy years of raising four children were dwindling as we were down to only Kristi in the house. Our evening routine consisted of deciding where we were going to eat out or perhaps where we were going to drive through. Worst case scenario, I would cook. It's pretty much the same here, but it seems like something is missing. Since being in Doha, after nourishing our bodies we mechanically plop down on the couch. David channel surfs while I Internet surf. What a rut. What exactly did we used to do? Well, I'm a little embarrassed to say. Every night after dinner we'd get situated on the sofa, look at each other in anticipation, and say, "yah ready?". Then we'd bust out the Nintendo 64, pop in Dr Mario, and play until our eyes burned. Oh, those were the days. What I'd give to bring that back. You think I'm kidding?! I'm serious. Anyone out there have one they would part with? Code Blue for Dr Mario!

Energize Me, Please

Ramadan will be coming to a close in less than two weeks and with the end of the fasting season comes the HOLIDAYS! The only problem is, I haven't booked anything. Simmer down people, I have eleven more days to put in a plan of action. We do have a few ideas in mind, but just haven't put them in writing, yet. Did I say "only problem"? There's actually a bigger problem that I seem to have carried over from last year. My battery charger for my camera was left in the states, again, this year and I'll need it for my supposed vacation. Ayyyyaaaayaaaa! I didn't forget it this time. I just couldn't locate it before I left. I tore the house up before my departure and even called the hotel where we stayed in New York, but to no avail. Who knows. My age related memory problem that started in my twenties is getting worse. If you remember from last year's dilemma, David had made a contraption to charge my battery. Well, this is my new camera and I was a bit more skeptical about him blowing up my battery. Maybe for good reason...what little power I had left in the battery he completely drained with his contraption this time. No doubt, under pressure he would have come through, but we knew had faith there was a good chance that I could get another charger here in Doha. So, we made a run to Doha's authorized Nikon reps in Salam Mall to see what we could find. The answer to that was "Oh, yes, we have that...just not today". Of course, not. We were told to check back on Monday, but I'm not holding my breath. It is still Ramadan, and if you thought things were at a snail's pace before, stick around and wait a while.
