Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Carved in Stone ~ Finally

Since we spoke last, David and I spent a week in Paris, and have even added yet one more exciting itinerary to the books. This particular trek is one we've made several times in the last five years, but this time (I suspect) will be filled with more emotion than usual. TEXAS bound ~ for good. Our five year reign of camel sightings, Bennigan's runs, construction zones, ghutra flipping, tweet ups, insane driving, man maids, amazing expats and locals, saloons, bendy straws, space invaders, call to prayer, Land Cruisers, "P" buildings, villa cats, sandstorms, queue jumpers, and all of the rest of the same same but different stuff is coming to a screeching halt on the first of June. I cannot tell a lie. There are so many things that I will be happy to leave in the dust, but so much of Doha will remain in my heart. It was bound to happen. I honestly thought I would be so sad for this day to arrive, but I am giddy with excitement about going home to FAMILY, Mexican food, AMERICAN food, civilized driving, American TV shown in real time, rain, bacon, flying old glory, Walmart, real radio stations, Cracker Barrel, Shea, Dustin, Kayla, and Kristi. It was fun while it lasted and wouldn't trade my Qatari Adventure for anything, but I'm going...

home.

  1. Yeehaw is right!! I will have all of those same feelings! So much to leave and so much to look forward to. My Doha won't be the same without your words of wisdom and eyes that see things no others can. You are one of a kind. I would love to see you before you leave...like the rest of Doha. Also can't wait to keep up with you in the Land of the Free! So happy for you to get to be with your kiddos! They're excited to have their mama too.

  5. Those songs were played a lot in the month leading up to our departure :) I've always loved reading your posts, you have a really unique way of looking at life in Doha and it won't be the same without your observations. I can't tell you how happy we are to be back in the UK, it was the best decision we have made. Qatar was a great experience but it wasn't home.

I hope you enjoy your last few months there and manage to find some things you haven't already tried, to give you even more great memories of the place.

Travel safe and have fun getting used to being home xxx

    1. Thanks, Amanda! Your happiness of being back in the UK comes out in your tweets :D Aberdeen sounds beautiful and GREEN. I think we both had great experiences in Doha because of our POSITIVE attitudes. We chose to take the negatives and embrace the humor in them. Can't believe we never actually met face to face. Alas, Scotland is still on our bucket list to visit. Maybe one of these days...
