David and I bailed out of day two of the Aquabike Races and headed to Katara Cultural Village for the afternoon, instead. The beautiful beaches, water activities, boardwalk cafes, meandering allies, and drop dead gorgeous amphitheater are definitely worth checking out. We sat for a long time just gazing out over the Arabian Gulf watching people para sailing with the ever growing West Bay in the background. Turn your head slightly to the left and there The Pearl stands majestically, despite all of the construction still in play.
For 7000 or so QR (1924USD), you can get a one year membership to actually walk out on the beach and sunbathe in the provided chairs as long as you have a t-shirt on, ladies. Oh, and add some shorts to that, too. Guys, you're welcome to go shirtless. If that sounds pricey, you can get a one day pass for 100QR (27.50USD). Once you have paid for beach access, you can participate in the para sailing, windsurfing, and other water sports for an extra fee. (Beach volleyball is included with initial entry fee.)
Katara has a resort feel with a magical and serene atmosphere that I find irresistible. Gosh that sounds so ridiculously lame, but I swear, it's the truth :P

Looks and sounds like a really nice place. I don't recall hearing you say anything about this place. Is it close to you?
ReplyDeleteYes, it's only 5 minutes or so~really close by Doha standards. It was where the Doha Film Festival was held this past October. I added a link at the bottom of this post that has some night pics at Katara. It is really something to see. I look forward to more events coming its way. The Qatar Marine Festival is supposed to take place there March 16-26. I'll hopefully be reporting back on that!
