Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Christmas Memories & Musings

While in Texas, I've been taking a walk down memory lane, you know, dragging out the old photos of the kids from years gone by. Every December it was the dreaded ritual for the perfect Knox kids Christmas photo. Instead of the kids getting more agreeable with maturity under their belts, the whole ordeal got worse from year to year, even with the newfangled age of digital photography. Miraculously though, I'd usually come out with one good picture, well, most of the time, anyway. Here's a sampling of the twenty five or so that I have...

Now that the kids are so spread out, it's hard to gather for a yearly shot, and oh, how disappointed they must be. So, I have to carry on the tradition without them, I suppose. The upside is that I'm much more agreeable and I don't even argue with myself. HoHoHo!

One more picture to share with you before I go that I lifted from a friend's facebook page. It appears that Santa and one of his helpers made it down to Qatar all the way from the North Pole. Picture taker, Jack, says that the kids were lined up for over a kilometer in the desert dunes for a chance to chat with Santa. No snow needed.

  1. Maybe it was 2K long, ton of kids. Sybil, you can barely see the edge of the sand dune in the back of the photo, but it was about 80 meters high, and the kids were sledding down it. I walked/ran/tumbled down it, and got sand in my knickers!Unlike snow, sand doesn't melt. Wait til I share my camel photos from National Day -- there were about 100 being ridden from TV Roundabout to Burger King R/A with a police escort, and then onto the North Road.Really cool. the Qataris can't see out any of the windows of their Toyota Land Cruisers since the World cup/National Day Festivities -- every pane of glass is covered with pictures of Our Beloved Leader, the Heir Apparent, and that white Arabian Stallion.

  4. Ha, thanks for the visual Jack. Sounds like I missed out on a bit of fun (& photo ops!).

Courtney, I agree, the P building has never looked so good ;) Will be back soon...hang in there!

Lori, next year I'm going to have to come up with a current picture. I can't keep dredging up the past! I definitely see copy & paste in my future to get everyone together at the same time. Thanks so much for delivering the rolls...my mom is a bread freak! She couldn't live off of bread & water alone, but definitely bread & milk!

    Merry Christmas to all!
