Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Homecoming

Sitting in the Doha airport lounge waiting for our flight to Austin. It's a bit of a bitter sweet moment as my dad and Kristi's "Paw Paw" passed away late Saturday night. So here I am on a planned eighteen our flight home that I would have been on even if I had not planned it. A bit ironic. Dad's moving on is not exactly a sad moment for me. Yes, I've spilled a few tears, but at the same time I know what a wonderful life he had. After all, he lived to the ripe old age of 85 and brought six children into the world with (just a little) help from my mom. Dad was always so proud of us. You know, embarrassingly proud. He introduced us to anyone and everyone he knew beaming from ear to ear like we were celebrities. God, he loved us. So, here we are, both heading home. Hope to see you one day on the flip side, Dad. I can hear you saying it now...

"If the good Lord is willin' and the creek don't rise."

I love you, Dad

  1. What a good man he was. Always had a huge smile on his face like he had just won the lottery. I know he will be greatly missed. Love you, my friend.

  5. I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. It's ironic that my mother is still hanging on after 4 years with lymphoma and lung cancer. Just goes to show who's really in charge. Have a safe trip back and forth from Austin and know that you and your family will stay in my prayers. I hope to at least talk to you by phone while you are stateside.

  7. Thank you for your prayers, ladies. I really appreciate it. Karen, it was nice to see good results from your Mom's scan. We have to trust that the big Man knows what he's doing!
