Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

It's Tchibo in My Cup

The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup

Oh, yeah, easier said than done in Doha. We do have Folgers in Qatar, but I'm so tired of paying QR24 ($6.60) a can for the imported stuff. You can also get Maxwell House, but it's packaged somewhere on this side of the world and well, it's not good to the last drop like the commercial promises. I always tuck away several of the huge cans of Colombian coffee in my suitcase before heading back this way, but it doesn't last long. Brand name or store name works for me, as long as Juan Valdez is on the can I'm a happy camper. Well, Mr. Valdez must not be able to get a Visa to Qatar as he is pretty hard to come by these days. Alas, along comes Tchibo...the coffee that you can buy in Qatar for half the price, although it's made in Germany, it has the "Spirit of South America". What more could one want?

  3. I order coffee from The Hawaii Coffee Company. The Vanilla Macademia Nut is to die for ... if you like flavored coffee.

  4. Once upon a time I drank flavored coffee, but then I decided I liked it better straight up. Straight up with milk & sweetener, of course! Still, I checked out their site Hawaii Coffee Co. They have web specials! I'm a sucker for specials & guess what flavor is on sale right now?! Yep!

  5. We got tired of dealing with the unreliable coffee supply and bought a Nespresso machine. We love it.

  6. I checked out your "Nespresso" machine, Jack. I thought you were messing with me because of all the instant Nescafe they serve around here! So, I'm a little confused on how it works. It looks like you have to get some kind of prepackaged coffee packets. Do you order them from the states?

  8. As a matter of fact I just bought some yesterday. It's a 250gr (8.8 oz)package and it was 12 or 12.5 QR....somewhere in the 12's!
