Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Security Forces Save Doha

I feel so much safer now. Quote from the Gulfnews.com...

"The operation was part of efforts by the security agencies to maintain the safety and security of the community"

Yes, I'm talking about the obscene cake raid that recently occurred in Doha. Thank God this security threat has been removed from the streets of Qatar. Of course the articles that ran in the local papers never divulged what exactly was vulgar about the cakes, leaving that task to the imagination of the readers. Obviously they don't know the extent of my thought process or they would have elaborated. For the life of me, I just can't see how an edible pastry can get one arrested, unless it has a knife baked in it and passes through prison doors. Twitter was buzzing about the offensive cake. Meaning: Everyone wanted a piece of it. Finally after extensively searching the Internet, I caught a glimpse of the offending pastry. It was none other than Doha's famous "P" building adorning a cupcake. OMG, yes, arrest the perpetrator and the architect while you're at it, puhlease!

Now, if we can only get the offensive
building off the streets!

  1. You are seriously insane! Love it! Are you keeping up with picts on my blog? K is getting to be such a big girl and a wee bit spoiled! She has no clue what she is in for! ;-)

  2. Yes, I've got an RSS feed to your blog so I don't miss a beat! Kelsey's growing like a weed and looks exactly like her momma! Love her new room and so glad that her cozy coop has arrived safe and sound! Spoiled would be a major understatement. How in the world will she adjust to a new sibling?! I feel her pain ;)

  4. Glad you were able to shed light on this mystery -- I had seen the story in the paper, and like you, my imagination ran wild. Larry David's show, "Curb Your Enthusiasm," featured an "offending cake" recently, which aided my thoughts. Any word what it tasted like, and how many did it serve? Who was it made for? By the way, a certain local bakery can top a cake with the Three Little Pigs, if you are interested.

  5. Clearly I've got to read your blog more frequently. I was gone over summer and hadn't heard of the great cake escapade. Another good chuckle. I do hope most of the Qatari's are chuckling along.

  7. Hi,

Just found your blog. Leave tomorrow from Washington, DC for a year in Doha working for the American Bar Association.

Born and raised in south Texas and Houston...3 grown children...leaving husband here to man the fort.

After I get settled in, would love to meet you for a cup of coffee and hear more about Doha. In the meantime, I'll keep reading.
