David and I had a couple of choices yesterday on what our outing for the day would be. There was an indoor Red Bull Crashed Ice qualifier at City Centre Mall or kite boarding adventures going on at Zikreet Beach. Yep, no brainer. Have you been to City Center on a Friday afternoon? Out on the free and open road to the desert we headed. Our friend, Ahmad, told us to meet him with camera in hand at Zikreet at 2:00pm. My bad, I forgot to ask him if that was real time or Qatari time. Turns out it was Qatari time, as we met up with him at 3:00pm. No worries, we didn't get there until 2:30 anyway. That would be Sybil time. It was a beautiful windy day, apparently the needed ingredient for successful boarding. The surfers at hand were anywhere from newbies to experienced with Ahmad being somewhere in the middle. Female surfer chick, Zellie, is a newbie but has already picked up some pretty smooth moves. She's only been at it a couple of months and is honing her talent with the help of the Edge Riders group and their experienced teacher, Jon. Check out their site for info and you can learn to ride like the wind. Me, I'll stand on my two feet on the shore and practice taking pictures. Sorry I missed your jump, Ahmad. Maybe next time. I did, however, catch your crash. You're welcome.

The Sounds of Morning in the Riviera

...Pink villas, that is

The first thing I do in the morning, even before pouring my first cup of coffee that David has so lovingly brewed for me, is open the back door to let the morning sounds and sun come in. However, for the last week those sounds haven't been quite so lovely. My morning bird tweeting is being overrun by my neighbor's gone amok water pump. It's screeching and screaming is becoming unbearable, but on the upside it's almost drowning out someone's howling kid down the block. The good news, I think, is that I see that the bikes from the Riviera plumbing brigade are on the job. Heaven help us.

Kickin' Up Dust

Today's Qatar International Rally 2011 races were a lot easier to find. One just had to look for the dust devils flying all around both sides of the road between Messaieed and Al Wakrah.
















I figured I'd include Qatar's original rally car for your viewing pleasure.

Gentlemen, start your engines...

Some weren't as worried about winning as hamming for the cam

It was not an easy task, but David and I tracked down the location of the Qatar International Rally 2011 races this afternoon. Who says Qatar is a tiny country? Trust me, there was a lot of desert to be covered in this undertaking. We could have saved a lot of venturing, if we had only known to begin with to turn at "two tire road".

Wafi Gourmet Hits Doha

David and I stopped in at the newly opened Wafi Gourmet in Landmark last week. The open market atmosphere was buzzing with a "come hither" attitude that I just couldn't pass up. Coffees, pastries, meats, fish, appetizers, everything right there on display for your ogling eyes. They definitely had my attention so we decided to stay and try it out first hand. Without a doubt, it was the best fatoush I've had in Doha. We kept it simple and just ordered grilled chicken for our entree...had to leave room for dessert! Apparently, there is a small portion not listed on the menu that was offered to us, but we opted for the regular since we were already sharing. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked and way more than our appetites could handle. Thinking back, the small order would probably have done the trick. We rounded out our meal with cappuccinos and a tiramisu. At the risk of being sued*, I have to say that the tiramisu was dry, practically tasteless and about the size of a fun size candy bar, but maybe our fault? Perhaps we should have gone for the baklava. After all, Wafi is a Lebanese restaurant, duh (not to be confused with LRD on The Pearl).










P.S. For some reason I was camera shy and only pulled out my mobile for pics. What's up with that? Weak moment, I guess. Anyway, as you can tell the food pics were "after" thoughts. That's how much chicken was left after we both had our fill.

Mini Review:

Will definitely go back. Nice atmosphere, good service, reasonable prices~higher than Turkey Central, cheaper than hotels. No iced tea, bring your own sweet-n-low (you know, to counteract the dessert!)
