Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Make the Music Stop!

I'm dragging this morning. It's 8:45am and I'm just now infusing my first cup of coffee into my system. It was one of those toss and turn nights, but this one was to music. Mamma Mia to be exact. You see, we watched this musical a week ago with friends and the music keeps rolling through my mind. I can't escape it. Just when I forget about it, a commercial comes on TV advertising it's upcoming debut on Show Cinema on our Mosaic cable service. My goal is to exorcise it right here, right now from my brain into words. By the way, I hate musicals. Breaking out into song and dance in the middle of dialogue is just ridiculous and unnatural to me. Enter Meryl Streep and my tune has changed. I absolutely loved her role in this lighthearted, feel good movie that left me humming all the way home and into the next week. Pierce Brosnan (aka James Bond), on the other hand, was completely inept in his ability to carry off the role of a former "lover". He was so out of character. Maybe it was the fact that he didn't have his Walther PPK by his side. Hey, I did my homework. Ok, so maybe I liked it so much because it was all fluff and I didn't have to strain my brain to keep up. Whatever it takes. The back drop of the movie is in the beautiful Greek Isles that is absolutely going to cost David. We have our post Ramadan holidays coming up in late September and my wheels are turning. His fault. Being an Abba fan (that was embarrassing to put in print), David's the one that wanted to see the movie. Tootles...

  1. I loved the movie and my kid's choice for vacation next year is the Greek Islands because of that movie and the Traveling Pants movies also. Denise already knows which islands to visit! My pocketbook says otherwise. I told her how about Washington DC and she said it was too close! Are they spoiled or what!

  3. Lucy, tell them how lucky they are to be spoiled... I can't blame them for shooting for the stars.

Ok, ok, Shea...I must admit, Dancing Queen is a pretty good one.

  4. Sybil, you've got to stay here in Santorini when you got to Greece, and September is the perfect time, fewer crowds and the water is warm. We were here in April, and may be back for that Ramadan break. Be careful, they will give you a bottle of wine when you check out, and as you know, that's problematic when you return to Qatar.

  6. When we were last in Vegas, we saw a stage production of Mamma Mia. So much fun, everyone was singing. For Don's 50th birthday, we saw . . . Mamma Mia. Again, fun in the theater with everyone singing along. Last girls night out, we plugged in Mamma Mia. For Father's Day, I bought Don the BluRay version. Watched it that morning and was in a great mood the rest of the day. Greece is now top of my list for places to go!!!
