Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Paninis Gone Wild

I have been turned on to the "panini" by one of my blog mates (Thanks, Sherry!). A fancy name for a grilled sandwich if you ask me, but I'm not complaining. "Honey, you just sit right there while I prepare you a panini." Now, doesn't that sound June Cleaverish. I've fixed them with turkey and cheese, eggs and cheese, butter and cinnamon, and with peanut butter and jelly. Talk about a new spin on the old pb&j. And that's just in a two day period. Hang in there, no telling what else I'll learn to stuff in one. The possiblities are endless. Basically you just throw anything you want on a sliced roll or bun, put it in the sandwich maker for five minutes and voila, a gourmet meal. Well, as close to gourmet as David's getting from me in this country. Throw a pasta salad on the side and you may as well be sitting on a sidewalk cafe in Venice. Yeah, like I know what that would be like...I can dream, you know. Speaking of dreaming, we're talking about going to Thailand for Kristi's spring break. Yeah, her staying here is really costing us. She informed me that I told her a long time ago, if she'd only stay and graduate we'd go on a vacation during her break. Well, she hasn't let me forget that. I figure if I say it out loud and tell the world, I'll have to book it. I do have a tentative flight scheduled, but you know me and commitment, I just can't seem to click on that pay and confirm button. I have posted a message on our ladies' group to enlist their help on the ins and outs of Thailand. It seems that everyone over here has been everywhere. I've never been one to have to keep up with the Joneses, but I guess the Ali Bin Alis are a different story. We (that would be Kristi & me) decided on Thailand because it seems to be one of those places that we would NEVER visit if we lived back in the states. So, while we have the opportunity to do something different we'll take it. Sorry guys, I don't know how I get from one subject to the next. I guess it's just like the bumper sticker says... "it happens". Well, that's sort of what it says. From paninis to Thailand. Go figure.

  1. Do they sell focaccia bread in Qatar?? That's what you need, girlfriend, to make a REAL panini.

  2. Well, smarty pants (aka Kristi's Godmother & my high school best friend), they do sell that bread here. I only know that because I jsut looked it up on Wikipedia & recognized a picture of it...pronounced foe-CAT-cha. Live & learn. Thanks for broadening my horizons, Fran!! Just because I live on the other side of the world doesn't make me worldly :(

  3. Hold on to your hat sister! Thailand IS a trip! Study up on how not to point your toes and hold on tight if you ride the "took tooks" a/k/a mopeds! A Doctor once told me...If you ride the river boats to the river markets and water splashes in your face...go ahead an jump in...you've been germed!
