Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

... to Look a Lot Like Christmas?!

Well, not a lot, but maybe a little. When I entered LuLu's Hypermarket this morning, I was met by a decorated Christmas tree. I must admit, it took me aback, as it is only November 8th, and we are still in Doha. I know that back in the states it can be disturbing, but not unusual to see decorations in place this early. Just yesterday, I saw something on television talking about the Christmas activities that Bass Pro Shops are putting into full swing starting today, but it is still in the 90's in Doha and last I checked, it is still a Muslim country. Oh well, as the saying goes, if you can't beat'em, join'em. Break out the Christmas music. I'm ready.

  1. As a new expat in Doha--relocated from TX--I'm finding your blog very helpful and somewhat of a comfort! SOOOO glad to hear about Lulu's xmas stuff...which one were you at, because I didn't see anything like that at the one near Landmark Mall. Also, do you know anywhere I can find canned pumpkin? I've checked MegaMart, Family Food, and Carrefour with no luck.

  2. Welcome to Doha! The decorations (poor selection) were upstairs at the LuLu near Landmark...if you haven't been upstairs, girl, it's a whole new world! The Dream Store across from the airport (near Family Food Center) should have tons of decorations. They did last year. Home Center usually offers decorations, as well. If you hang in there, Carrefour may get a load of fresh trees. I bought a gorgeous real tree last year from there! Good Luck! Keep in touch :)

  3. AcadeMama...I forgot you asked about canned pumpkin. It must not be available, because one of my Facebook ex Doha friends just made a remark about it on her FB page. She just bought some back in Texas "because she could". Unfortunately, I think that answers your question.
