Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Out of Africa Part II

Shea sends a few pics my way every now and then from his African adventures. Thought I'd share a part of the world that is very removed from us. With no American food in sight to his chagrin (not even McDonald's who serves 119 countries!) shows you just how far off the beaten path it is.

Roadside scenes...ladies transporting their goods

Last of the free roaming herds of giraffes in his region of Africa

How about a haircut...maybe Bill Gates' style?

Local roadside cafe? The sign reads "Cafe David". Note the trench in front of it (and I question the safety issues in Doha!).

Visiting the local orphanage...presenting them with goody bags and just hanging around and interacting with the children. Can you spot, "whachoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?!"?

  1. Love the Africa pics. I guess I imagined the worst for him, but it seems to not be so bad. How much longer does he have there?

  2. I just now noticed the crawfish shirt on one of those kids. Denise had one of those and we donated it to Purple Heart about a year ago. I wonder if it made it all the way over there!

  3. I bet he loves being able to give to those kids. Wonderful!

  4. He will be there another three to four months. He might possibly do one more stint there after he completes his home leave, but who knows. The army does things how they want & things change at the drop of a hat.
