Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Off to the Races

I love spontaneity. It eliminates the stress factor. Just this morning, David and I have decided on the fly (pun intended) to hop on over to Abu Dhabi for the weekend to attend the Red Bull Air Races. For those of you stateside that may not know what the heck Abu Dhabi is, it is the capital of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) of which the more familiar city of Dubai is located. David and I visited Abu Dhabi back when Kristi played a soccer tournament there for the American School of Doha. Unfortunately at the time, we didn't know what area to stay in and ended up in what I would term as "bachelor central". We never even made it to the corniche. So, this time we're going to do it right and stay on the corniche with a sea facing room to make up for our last visit. Back to the Air Races. What is air racing, you ask? This is how Wikipedia describes those of the Red Bull nature:

"Red Bull has created a series called the Red Bull Air Race World Series in which competitors fly singularly through a series of gates, between which they must perform a prescribed series of aerobatics maneuvers. Usually held over water near large cities, the series has attracted large crowds and brought substantial media interest in air racing for the first time in decades.
"

I couldn't have stated it better myself. We've watched them on television and they seem pretty exciting, so surely firsthand will prove even better. No doubt, I'll let you in on the action. Even better, you can probably catch the action yourself on tv. Check your Fox Sports listings. Over and out!

Shea, I'm surprised at you. I learned about Dubai from you. You will have plenty of time to study up on Middle East geography while hanging out in Africa :D
