We scored a couple of tickets to the
Qatar vs Australia 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying game from our new villa neighbor Steve.
He and his wife Ella, and daughter Morgan, invited us to go along to watch the underdog Qatar National team take on the Socceroos.
I'm sure the Aussies were expecting to roll right over Qatar, but we hung in there to the very end with no goals scored after ninety minutes of play. The 0-0 tie actually gave the Australians enough tournament points to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. We ended up sitting on the Aussie side
(Steve, you traitor!), which was in itself quite entertaining, as they were what one would call a bit of a rowdy crowd. They had an unending repertoire of songs, chants, and cheers for the occasion, some not so family oriented. Unfortunately for them, they got their crowd bouncing beach ball confiscated and when one of their fans retaliated, he got himself bounced from the crowd, as well. His weapon of choice: popcorn. I guess an assault is an assault. The game and the people watching were all captivating, as always. Thanks, guys...enjoyed it!
Here's Morgan happy to know that the crowd control force is watching her back.

Great pictures, Sybil. (And you're welcome!)
ReplyDeleteHey Sybil,
ReplyDeleteThis is Christopher
As I am an avid viewer of the Fox Soccer Channel I too was watching the Qatar vs. Australia game this past Saturday. I told Lana that you were probably at the game and I was right. Lucky. The last big time football game to come close to us was the USA vs. Mexico World Cup Qualifier in February in Houston and I missed it! Oh well. By the way, I dont know if you kow but I too started a blog back in January and I have a link to yours posted as well. I love reading about your adventures and I stay current on the adventures of the Knox's in Qatar. Good stuff, keep it up!
Hey Chris! I've checked out your blog. Very nice. I especially love your new little bundle. Congrats on the births of your blog & baby Isabella!
ReplyDeleteStevemeister...thanks for the shout out on your Australia post!
