Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Two Years Down

Two years ago today marks the first anniversary of Kristi and me landing at Doha International Airport. That seems so long ago, but at the same time I can't believe it's already been two years. What's etched in my mind from that June 17th night of 2007 is the hundreds and hundreds of male eyeballs (literally) perusing us as we walked through the swinging doors to the arriving passengers area. My insecure inner self thanked God profusely that it didn't take long to spot David's bright fair skin, light hair (what's left!), blue eyes, and tall six foot plus frame amongst the many shades of brown foreign men reaching a stature not much more than my own short self, if any. It had been nearly two months since we had seen David and he was beginning to take on the Grizzly Adams look, but yet a sight for sore eyes for us true blue Texans in this new foreign land. Thinking back to that first night and day, it seemed so overwhelming to me that we were 8,000 plus miles from home. That was the most unnerving and foremost thought in my mind. Never mind the white thobes, black abayas, Americans few and far between, absence of greenery , or insane driving that abounded, it was the unfathomable mileage between Texas and Qatar that bothered me. After a couple of days of recovering from jet lag and realizing that the Internet and Vonage bridged that gap, the mileage factor disappeared and Doha became home. Kristi has since moved on, but David and I are here to forge ahead. How much longer? God only knows. He'll let us know when it's time to move on. Insha'allah.

  1. Congratulations! I guess that means we're one year, eight months, and six days behind you, but who's counting? :)

  3. Congrats on your milestone! And I am still jealous of such an incredible life experience you are privy to. Maybe one day I can convince Lana to let us move off to some foreign land to experience a whole new world!

  4. Thanks for the congrats!

& Sabii Wabii, my blog started one day out of the blue while I was waiting for our passports to arrive. Family & friends were calling me on a daily basis to ask of their status as that was all we needed to book our ticket out. The "prequel" is missing. I never knew I would actually contine blogging indefinitely. Nevertheless, to answer your question, we are here through my husband's job with Chevron Phillips Chemical for an "indefinite" time period. Thanks for dropping in!
