Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Joan's Winning, But Who's Keeping Score?

As we topped out at 116F late this morning, we headed out to complete a mission. Sherry couldn't be outdone by Joan, a carpet purchase had to be made. We went to visit Abdul to look over the carpet he was holding for Sherry. He wasn't there but his compadre was happy to fill in and make the sell. The only snag was that Sherry decided she liked the one hanging at the top of the stairway instead. I don't know if you have noted it yet, but most of the men in this country rarely top out over five feet. David's role in the carpet shopping has now begun. Luckily, he retrieved it with no mishaps and Sherry decided that it was "the one". Only thing was, Joan stepped up and bought another carpet while waiting on Sherry to complete her purchase. Score two for Joan, one for Sherry. We still have a few more days to see if Sherry wants to up the ante. We stopped for a juice to quench the thirst that all that rug bargaining created and headed back to the villa for our afternoon siesta. When it cooled down to 110F we headed to the beach to try our luck at a little shell hunting. After bagging a few shells, we headed to City Centre Mall to see what was happening. Of course all that was happening there was the traffic and we all know how David deals with that...he doesn't. So we forged on to the Souqs to eat at the Moroccan restaurant, Tajine. Bob fulfilled his need to eat camel, while Sherry got the Couscous. All was good. We headed back home, but made one last stop at our local grocery. We wanted to show off a bit for our American guests by doing the Qatari thing and honking for service. David couldn't quite bring himself to actually honk, so he timidly waved at the nice Indian gent in the store...so much for being all that. I'm just messing with you, honey, I couldn't have honked either. Anyway, he did come out and take our order for milk and bread. Now, aren't we special, we are officially Qatarized.
