Our five year adventure in Doha, Qatar ended June 1, 2012, but the memories will always remain. It's back to Texas where I have decided...Qatar isn't cornering the market on "quirky", as I once believed. Thanks for opening my eyes to the world, Doha!

Think Pink

It's that time of the year for me...the annual mammogram. Yes, they do have the capability here to do such things. My friend and I (we always do things in twos in this country) went this morning to Al Ahli Resort...er, I mean hospital. Geez, you should see this place. Ivies hanging from balconies that are overlooking the center atrium of the main floor, fountains flowing, canvases hanging. It's what we call in the states a five star hotel. I mean, even the tea lady comes around to take your order for tea or coffee and then returns with it in china cups, complimentary of course. While waiting for my friend to complete her screening, I had the pleasure of chatting with a Qatari woman that was three weeks shy of giving birth. Her miserability, if I may make up a word, was showing in her two times bigger than normal feet. In conversation I discovered that she already had two sons and a daughter, whom were "naughty", her words. The naughty part is the reason she is telling her husband "khalas" (finish) after this child is born, regardless if it is another daughter as he fears. He told her they would try again if it was a girl. She told him that if he wants another child after this to take it up with his mother. I thought it was sort of funny, because we have a stereotypical notion that Qatari women are subservient to their husbands. Well, I have a feeling that this one is giving her hubby one run for his money. Quite refreshing if you ask me. I'm not so sure she would have been telling me her life story if she hadn't been on the doorstep to labor. Women do have a tendency to get a little testy towards the end. Well, that's what I've heard, anyway. Back to the procedure itself. It's about the same as in the States with the same comfort level, which adds up to negative 42, but who's counting. We both spoke to the Radiologist and were informed that we passed with flying colors (pink colors, that is) and are good to go for another year. Now, get off the computer and go schedule yours. Ciao!

  1. Wow, that place would make you look forward to going and having a procedure done. Not like here in the states where you keep putting them off! lol

  2. Good for you! I had mine recently also and I too am good for another year. That cartoon is funny because that is exactly how I felt my boobs looked like after I walked out.
